Configure your event

Everything about your event is set from one screen. Open your event and you land on Event Configuration. It is a list of sections, top to bottom, and working down it in order is a reasonable way to set up a tournament.

Each row shows its current value on the right. Tap the row to change it.

Most of these have a sensible default. The ones worth a real decision are Event Structure, Divisions, and Mats — the rest you can revisit.

Name, location, branding, and public access.

Event Info holds the name, dates, venue, organizer contact, and the scoring rules the event runs under. It also has a full event rundown field — a long free-text area for schedules, weigh-in times, lodging, parking, and special rules. Whatever you put there is what parents read on your public event page, so it is worth more than five minutes.

Event Branding puts your logo and colors on the event. See Brand your event.

Online registration, share links, and event flyers.

This section is not on every event. League events take their wrestlers from league rosters rather than public sign-up, and Team duals events need teams to enter rather than individuals. In both cases the whole section — registration, share links, and the flyer generator — is absent from the configuration screen.

Registration is the whole online-entry setup: dates, prices, limits, waiver, refund policy. It starts at Not configured, and online registration has its own master switch that stays off until you turn it on — so you can fill in every setting as a draft, at your own pace, without anyone being able to register.

Do not open registration until your divisions exist. Snapdown will warn you about this on the registration screen itself, but the warning is easier to heed than to undo. See Set up online registration.

Event Flyer generates a shareable graphic for your event.

Format, bracket policy, scoring, match scheduling, mats, and weigh-ins.

Six rows, in the order they appear:

Event Structure — three choices:

  • Individual — wrestler vs. wrestler. Every ordinary tournament.
  • Team duals — team vs. team, using weight-class lineups and dual scoring.
  • Individual + duals — a combined event. It exists for legacy events that deliberately run both; you almost certainly want one of the first two.

This one is different from the rest: it decides whether Event Admin shows you individual tournament tools or dual tools.

You can change the structure later without rewriting the competition type on each division. Fixed weight classes remain fixed, and their class lists remain available as the starting lineup weights for duals. Changing structure still changes which competition tools appear in Event Admin, so review the setup before you build or publish anything.

Individual Bracket Formats — the event-wide list shown in manual bracket format pickers and inherited by fixed-weight divisions for automatic bracket sizing. Leave it empty to make every compatible individual format available. On Brackets, a fixed-weight division can replace this inherited list with its own Bracket Types selection when divisions need different automatic formats or size limits. Bracket formats and wrestleback crossover rules explains what the formats actually do to a wrestler’s day.

Team Scoring — whether the event calculates competitive team points and whether it displays team records. These are two independent switches. A youth tournament that does not crown a team champion can leave points off and still show team stats.

Match SchedulingAutomatic by default, which spreads the competition across your mats for you. The Customize button is for events where divisions need separate sessions, separate mats, or a deliberate order. See Use automatic match scheduling across mats.

Mats — how many mats you have, listed by number. Enter a range (1-10) or individual numbers separated by commas. Mat count feeds scheduling, bout numbering, and the Mat Control Center, so it needs to be right before anything is built.

Weigh-In Allowance — how far over a weight class a wrestler may weigh and still make weight. Strict (no allowance) is the default; the other choices are 0.5 lb, 1 lb, and 2 lb over the maximum.

Divisions are how wrestlers are separated — by age, grade, gender, skill, or anything else you run. Each Individual division then chooses fixed weight classes or automatic grouping.

This is the section that most affects everything downstream. Registration entries land in divisions, brackets are built per division, and moving entries between divisions later is real work.

See Set up divisions and weight classes.

Where wrestlers, teams, and divisions come into the tournament. If you are not using online registration, this is your intake: import a CSV or Excel roster, or add wrestlers one at a time.

See Add wrestlers to a standalone event — Snapdown recommends a template layout for your event format and walks you through column mapping and a preview before it creates anything.

Grant admin, scoring, or weigh-in permissions to the people helping you run the day. The three permissions are independent, people without a Snapdown account are invited automatically, and a whole crew can be pasted in at once rather than typed one at a time.

See Add event staff and permissions.

If you want a single order to work in:

  1. Event Info
  2. Event Branding
  3. Divisions and weight classes
  4. Event Structure and Mats
  5. Registration — only after 3 is done
  6. Event Staff

Steps 4 through 6 can move around. Steps 1 through 3 are worth doing in order.

The full sequence, through event day and results, is on Set up your tournament.
