Set bracket places and team-scoring places

Snapdown keeps bracket depth and team-scoring depth separate. That lets a tournament wrestle additional placement bouts without automatically awarding team placement points to every place the bracket determines.

Open Event Configuration, then Scoring & Placements, to set the event defaults.

Scoring and Placements with separate controls for bracket depth, team placement points, and team statistics

Setting What it controls What it does not control
Bracket Places Whether newly generated elimination brackets wrestle through the top 4, 6, or 8 places. Existing brackets, round-robin standings, awards, and the team placement-point cutoff.
Team Scoring Places Whether placement points are awarded through the top 4, 6, or 8 places in individual brackets. The matches in a bracket, advancement points, activity points, and the number of wrestlers ranked in a round robin.

Bracket Places affects newly generated brackets

Snapdown stores one selected bracket family, such as 16-person WB-3rd, and uses Bracket Places to choose the compatible top-4, top-6, or top-8 structure when it generates a bracket. This keeps placement depth out of the format picker.

Changing the event setting does not rewrite brackets that already exist. Build new brackets—or deliberately change an existing bracket’s structure—when the competition itself needs a different placement depth.

Round robins are different: they rank every wrestler in the group. A six-person round robin still produces places 1 through 6 even when Bracket Places is Top 4.

WB-5th brackets inherently wrestle for fifth and sixth. If WB-5th is selected while Bracket Places is Top 4, Snapdown uses the Top 6 WB-5th structure.

Team Scoring Places controls placement points

Section titled “Team Scoring Places controls placement points”

Team Scoring Places selects the placement-point table used across the event’s individual brackets. Finishers beyond that cutoff receive zero placement points.

This cutoff does not remove points earned for match activity or advancement. For example, with Team Scoring Places set to Top 4, a WB-5th bracket can still determine fifth and sixth. Those wrestlers receive no placement points, but any activity and advancement points they earned remain part of the team total.

The same rule applies to round robins. The group still ranks every wrestler, while placement points stop at the selected team-scoring depth.

Changing Team Scoring Places recalculates completed individual brackets and can change team totals and standings. Snapdown warns about that consequence in the settings dialog. Merely opening an older event does not recalculate its stored team scores; the change happens when an administrator deliberately saves a different scoring depth or reopens and recompletes a bracket.

The event values are defaults. In Divisions, an event division can inherit them or set its own Bracket places and Team scoring places overrides. An override is useful when one event contains competition groups with different placement requirements.

When an override is set, it takes priority for that division. Returning it to Event default restores inheritance. Changing a division’s team-scoring override also recalculates completed brackets because it can change the event’s team totals.

Use Team Scoring to turn competitive activity, advancement, and placement points on or off. Team Win/Loss Stats controls whether team match records and statistics are shown; it is independent of competitive team points.

Use Individual Bracket Formats to choose which bracket families are available. It does not set the placement-point cutoff, and neither placement setting determines awards.
