Record bouts and offer live video

Snapdown records bouts from a camera connected to the scoring computer. Once set up, recording starts with Start Clock and stops when the scorer submits the result, with a limit of 15 minutes per bout. Each recording includes the score on screen and is attached to its match.

Video is in beta and must be turned on for the event. Open Event Settings → Bout Video. If it offers On, select it and save. Otherwise it offers Email support: email support@snapdown.io and we’ll turn it on for that event. Live viewing comes with it.

  • A scoring laptop or Chromebook running an up-to-date Chrome or Edge browser.
  • A compatible camera. A USB webcam lets you aim at the mat while the scorer uses the computer. Expensive broadcast cameras and a separate streaming encoder are not required.
  • A stable camera mount, power for the computer, and a clear view of the mat.
  • Internet access with enough upload capacity for the cameras you are using. Test all planned camera stations together on the venue’s connection.
  • A scorer with the event’s Score permission. See Add event staff and permissions.

Test recording and playback on the actual computer and camera before event day. A device that handles scoring still needs to handle video capture and upload at the same time. For the rest of the table setup, see Recommended hardware for scoring tables.

Current recordings have no audio. Live video follows the match with a delay that depends on the connection; it is not a replacement for the mat’s clock.

  1. In Event Settings, confirm the Bout Video row shows On.
  2. Refresh the scoring browser after the event’s video setting changes.
  3. Open Table Scoring, select the correct mat, and open its first match.
  4. In the left navigation, open Devices → Camera. On a narrow screen, open the Table Scoring menu first.
  5. Turn on Record video on this device and allow browser camera access.
  6. Choose the camera from Camera. Aim it so the whole mat is visible and the score box in the top-left corner leaves the action clear.
  7. Confirm the Camera panel says Ready, then close it. The Camera row in Devices also shows its current status.

Repeat this at each camera station. Enabling video for the event does not turn on recording on every device.

Choose Start Clock to begin the bout and its recording. The header changes to REC with the recording time. Pausing the match clock does not pause the video, so stoppages and time between periods stay in the recording.

Finish the bout with Submit Result. Snapdown uploads video during the bout and finishes the upload afterward. The next bout gets its own recording when its clock starts; the scorer does not need to name or attach video files.

Keep Table Scoring visible and the computer awake while recording. Leaving the scoring screen or switching matches ends the current recording. Avoid refreshing during a bout: recovered footage can be marked as a partial recording.

Before packing up, wait for pending uploads to finish and play a completed recording to check the picture and score. See Score matches at a table for the scoring controls.

Open Devices → Camera to check the preview, upload speed, storage, and Upload queue. The navigation row shows whether the camera is ready, recording, falling behind, or uploading finished bouts. Keep the browser open until pending uploads finish. Use Retry uploads if needed.

Open Event Admin → Video. The summary shows recorded, uploading, and missing bouts, cameras, and mats needing attention. Use Refresh to get the latest camera and upload status; leaving the page open does not refresh those readings.

  • Select Needs attention to focus on camera problems.
  • Select a mat to filter its bouts, or search for a bout or wrestler.
  • Choose Play for a completed recording. On events with live view, uploading recordings offer Watch live.
  • Use a recording’s more menu to Hide from viewers or Move to another bout… if it was attached to the wrong match. Reassignment stays within the same event. Show to viewers reverses hiding.

Coverage counts concern completed, wrestled bouts on mats where video has been active. A mat without a camera is not a promise of recorded coverage.

What you see What to do
No Camera row under Devices Confirm video is enabled for this event, refresh Table Scoring, and check the scorer’s permission.
Camera permission denied or Camera problem Allow camera access in the browser, check the camera connection, then open Devices → Camera and choose Retry camera.
Camera disconnected Reconnect it, then turn Record video on this device off and on. Check the preview before continuing.
Videos waiting to upload Keep this browser and device available. Restore the connection and choose Retry uploads in Devices → Camera.
A mat appears offline Check its scoring computer, browser, and connection, then refresh the director’s Video page.
Partial recording Some footage was recovered after an interruption. Play it to check which part of the bout is available.

During a connection loss, captured footage is kept in browser recovery storage for upload later. Live viewers cannot receive new footage until it uploads. Do not clear the browser’s site data or change browser profiles while footage is pending. Reopen Table Scoring in the same browser and sign in with the recording account to recover uploads after a restart.

In Devices → Camera → Advanced, desktop Chrome or Edge can Choose video folder. This is optional: browser recovery storage and uploads work without choosing a folder. Files in the selected folder are deleted automatically after successful upload, so it is temporary storage rather than a permanent archive. If permission expires, use Allow folder access / retry local files.

For a problem that persists, open Devices → Camera → Activity log and choose Send to Snapdown support or Download log. When contacting Snapdown, include the event, mat, and affected bout.

Failed or partial recordings offer Discard in the upload queue. Advanced also offers Discard all failed recordings. Discarding removes the affected recordings from this device and from storage; use it only when you intend to remove that footage.
